SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) - The California Highway Patrol says one person was hurt after a CHP officer opened fire as authorities were removing a homeless camp in Sacramento.
CHP spokesman Officer Michael Bradley would not say whether the suspect was hit by the gunfire, which happened about 1 p.m. Friday.
The suspect was treated at a hospital before being booked into jail.
Bradley says two officers were helping California Department of Transportation employees remove a homeless camp along an onramp to State Highway 99 in south Sacramento.
He says man who is apparently homeless displayed a folding knife, prompting the officer to open fire.
No others were injured.
Bradley would not give the suspect's name, age or provide other details, citing the ongoing investigation.
