A little history was made Sunday as the Feather River Rowing Club hosted its first ever Summer Sprints on the Thermalito Forebay in Oroville.

Dozens of rowers in teams of two, four, eight and singles participated in the event, which included athletes from the Chico State rowing team, Sacramento State Rowing Club and Clear Lake Rowing Club

Races went from 8:30 a.m. until noon.

The course was one-thousand meters, aligned with bright colored red bouies.

Event organizers and rowers are hoping this event is the start of yearly summer sprint races on the Forebay.

"This could be the beginning of something really great and as I look behind me right now, all I see is potential," said Nathan Sandoval, a Chico State rower.

Sacramento State Rowing Club member Theresa Gorman echoes Sandoval's sentiments.

"I could see them having a big regatta here, with all the West Coast Crews, you've certainly got the room for it and the nice flat water for it, it's perfect."
