SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) - Three nationally known Republicans are endorsing California gubernatorial candidate Neel Kashkari. They are former Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney, former California Gov. Pete Wilson and Rep. Darrell Issa.

Kashkari's campaign announced the endorsements Monday as the little-known former U.S. Treasury official struggles to gain notoriety and support just weeks before the June primary.

Recent polls have shown Kashkari trailing Republican state Assemblyman Tim Donnelly by double-digits. They are part of a field of candidates seeking to advance beyond the top-two primary and challenge Democratic Gov. Jerry Brown in November.

While endorsements from conservatives such as Issa don't necessarily align with Kashkari's centrist image, they could help him in the June primary. Voters in that election are expected to be older, whiter and more conservative than the overall California electorate.
