FALLON, Nev. (AP) - The Nevada Highway Patrol says driver inattention apparently led to the single-vehicle rollover that killed a South Lake Tahoe police officer, his wife and another woman on U.S. Highway 50 near Fallon over the weekend.
The patrol said Monday that 42-year-old Mark Hounsell of Minden was driving a white Chevrolet Suburban about 5 p.m. Saturday when he allowed the SUV to drift off the road, then overcorrected, causing it to overturn several times.
Jeanne Hounsell, a 34-year-old Carson Valley photographer, also was killed along with 33-year-old Laura Fisher, a family friend from Washington, Illinois.
The Hounsell's four children, ages 4 to 14, were transported to hospitals and are expected to recover.
Mark Hounsell was a former Douglas County sheriff's deputy who joined the South Lake Tahoe police department in 2007.
