A Redding man wanted on suspicion of robbery and kidnapping has been arrested after he led authorities on a multi-city car chase Sunday afternoon.

The chase started when Redding police located Jose Chavez, 26, at the South Bonnyview Boat Ramp in Redding. Chavez had three felony warrants for his arrest, two for robbery and one for kidnapping, police said.

Upon seeing officers arrive in the area, Chavez immediately fled in a silver Nissan Versa. He traveled through south Redding and into north Anderson before returning to Redding.

During the chase, which never exceeded speeds of 75 mph, Chavez called 911 and told dispatchers he was armed. During the 911 call Chavez made threats to the public and police, according to the Redding Police Department.

Officers used spike strips to stop the car and end the chase, but Chavez refused to go down easy. He proceeded to arm himself with a razor knife and held it to his own throat, refusing to comply with orders from police.

Eventually, a K9 was sent after Chavez. He was arrested and then booked into the Shasta County Jail.
