Ridge recyclables will help little anglers catch big fish

Cans and bottles in waterways can be detrimental to fish and other wildlife, but by bringing those same recyclables to Ace Hardware in Paradise on January 11 and 12, you can help stock Lake Paradise for the annual Kids Fishing Day.

On both days from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., volunteers from the Paradise Irrigation District and Northern Recycling and Waste Services will be on hand to accept recyclables. Funds raised from collecting CRV cans, bottles, and glass during the drive will help purchase more trophy-sized trout to be planted in Lake Paradise for Kids Fishing Day, currently scheduled for April 19.

The annual Kids Fishing Day allows hundreds of young anglers to snag big trout through the effort of community donations. The lake is closed the week before the event to allow youngsters a better chance of catching a whopper. The event itself includes a barbecue and dozens of prizes.

Those who cannot make donations the weekend of January 11 and 12 may donate them at NRWS’ recycling facility on American Way during regular business hours, just make sure you mention you’d like your funds to be donated to the event.
