The Tehama County Sheriff’s Office has released an updated description of the man they say robbed and shot two hikers on the Iron Canyon Trail Friday.

The suspect is described as a white male adult, approximately 6 feet tall, he has a thin build and a black mustache or beard. He was wearing dark colored denim pants and a black t-shirt.

Authorities say the robber took cash and other personal items from the hikers before he shot them and left them in the remote area about 100 yards from the trail head. An uninvolved hiker came upon the two victims approximately three-hours after the shooting.

Deputies said 69-year-old Francis Gregory was dead when they arrived on the scene, but a second victim, whose name is not being released at this time is in stable, but critical condition.

Detectives are asking for assistance from the public from anyone that may have been at the Iron Canyon Trail Head or in the area of the trail head between the hours of 9 am and 3 pm on Friday, May 16, 2014.

The Tehama County Secret Witness Program is offering up to a $1,500 reward for the arrest and subsequent prosecution and conviction for the suspect(s) involved in this incident.
