Retired Redding Police Star K-9 Dies

Retired Redding Police Department K-9 Vermut (Ver-moot) passed away yesterday. Vermut faithfully served citizens of Redding as a Police K-9 from 2004 until his retirement in 2011. Vermut's partner throughout most of his stellar career was Officer Kip Kinneavy. Kinneavy and Vermut were notable members throughout the Redding community as a result of their exceptional successes.

Vermut was involved in locating hundreds of people throughout his career, ranging from lost, at-risk, Alzheimer patients to numerous violent felons. Vermut also served several years as a SWAT K-9 and was deployed on many high profile cases. Vermut was even featured in Reader's Digest for finding critical evidence in a violent attempted murder and kidnapping. His work made a difference in the Redding community and kept many officers and citizens out of harms way.

The Redding Police department stated Vermut was truly a one-in-a-million dog and will be greatly missed by the department.
