Butte County Search and Rescue teams are hoping to solve a tragedy and be better prepared for the future.
Teams are staging in the Peak View Drive area of Oroville Saturday with a dual purpose. Their training search and rescue teams while also working to solve what they call one of their “cold cases,” finding missing Oroville resident John Chesley.
Chesley, 81 at the time he went missing, has been missing for more than 20 months, his last known sighting was near Peak View Drive on February 23, 2014. Butte County Sheriffs, in coordination with sheriff's office search teams from Shasta, Placer, Contra Costa, Nevada, Mendocino, Yuba and Marin counties, searched a five-square-mile area for more than seven days to locate Chesley, who was never found.
Search and rescue teams will work throughout the day, training their various units in tactics and procedures.
