The Sacramento Kings have relieved head coach Michael Malone of his duties.

Yahoo! Sports first reported the story.

Sacramento (11-13) started the year strong, going 9-6 before losing star DeMarcus Cousins to viral meningitis. They've gone 2-7 without Cousins.

Still, the Kings are a 1/2 game out of eighth place in the West.

Malone was notified of his dismissal late Sunday.

ESPN sources say Sacramento's upper management "expected more" and there was "no incident" that led to the decision.

Malone was was hired on June 3, 2013, and went 39-67 in one-plus seasons with the Kings.

Assistant coach Tyrone Corbin will serve as the team's interim head coach.
