SkyWest is set to begin flying new regional jets in and out of the Redding Municipal Airport on Thursday.

The first jet is scheduled to arrive in Redding at 2:41 p.m. and SkyWest will offer departures twice daily at 5:30 a.m. and 3:20 p.m.

The Redding Municipal Airport and SkyWest are retiring the 30-passenger Embraer 120 Brasilia in favor of new 50 passenger CJR200s. The transition to 50-passenger jets will increase the number of seats available for travelers to and from Redding every day.

Additionally, SkyWest has indicated that if the passenger demand is high and aircraft are available, additional flights may be added.

City officials say upgrades to the airplanes have allowed Redding to offer fares comparable to those offered in Sacramento.
