A Redding woman is behind bars this Memorial Day after crashing her car into a building.

Redding police say Ashley Cockrell, 21, was speeding in a 1999 Chevy Z28 on Lake Boulevard around 11 last night when they say she lost control of her vehicle, crashing into a detached garage at the northeast corner of the intersection.

Cockrell was not wearing a seatbelt at the time and suffered a laceration to the right side of her head, as well as other wounds from broken glass.

While being treated at Mercy Medical Center, police say she admitted to drinking and smoking marijuana.

She was arrested for driving under the influence.
