The first female veteran will be admitted to the Veterans home of California-Redding tomorrow.

Patricia Hipley will be the 12th resident admitted to the Veteran’s home. Hipley is a native of Spokane, Wash., and was honorably discharged from the U.S. Navy. Shipley served some time at the end of World War II, according to the Veteran’s home press release. Hipley also holds an American Theatre Campaign ribbon and a World War II Victory Medal. During her time in the Navy she was also stationed in Seattle, Jacksonville, Fla., Pensacola, Fla., and New York City.

Hipley will go through the admissions process tomorrow. She will have a complete medical examination, fill out some paperwork, and select her own room in the Shasta neighborhood of the Veteran’s Home.

Both staff and residents are “very excited to have Patricia arrive and move into her new home.”
