The Redding Police Department has arrested 22-year-old Matthew Macias this morning at a residence on Reservoir Avenue. Macias is the suspect in a stabbing which took place just before midnight last night at a residence in the same neighborhood.
Redding Police had been searching for Macias and considered him “armed and dangerous” after he allegedly stabbed another man in the victim’s residence at 11:55 p.m. last night. The attack occurred on the 2500 block of Reservoir Avenue in Redding. According to police officials, Macias forced his way into the residence and stabbed 39-year-old Kristopher Knuth from behind. Macias then allegedly fled the scene on foot. Redding Police stated in a previous press release Macias was on parole for an assault with a deadly weapon conviction.
Knuth reportedly suffered wounds to his neck and shoulders and was transported to Mercy Medical Center for non-life-threatening wounds. The Department has indicated Knuth currently remains in the hospital but is in stable condition.
After officers arrested Macias he admitted to the attack and told detectives where he hid the knife during his interview, according to the department’s press release. Macias was booked into the Shasta County Jail for attempted murder, assault with a deadly weapon, and parole violation charges.
