More accolades have been given to one North State school.

For the third straight time, Mistletoe Elementary School in Redding has been named to the "Schools to Watch - Taking Center Stage" list. The award is given out every three years, and Mistletoe has been honored in 2010, 2013, and now 2016.

The schools honored are high-performing model schools, demonstrating academic excellence, social equity, and responsiveness to young adolescents.

Principal Heather Armelino said she couldn't be more proud.

“Very proud of the program we have here,” she said. “Our kids are amazing and we continue to improve every year and are able to challenge them with a diverse and rich program.”

There are 33 total middle schools honored, and Mistletoe joins Alder Creek Middle School in Truckee as the only two recognized north of Sacramento.

All schools will be honored at a conference and luncheon in Sacramento at the end of the month.

Armelino said the school will also take part in the national conference in Washington,D.C. in June.

Mistletoe Elementary School" is a kindergarten through 8th grade school, which Armelino said creates a wonderful environment for older students to tutor and mentor younger ones.
