A Redding police officer suffered minor injuries when his RPD SUV was struck from behind as he finished a traffic stop.
The California Highway Patrol says Kenneth Smith, 27, of Red Bluff, slammed his Dodge pickup into the back of Redding Police Officer Joe Labbe’s vehicle around 11:30 p.m. Wednesday on Churn Creek Road south of Industrial Street.
Labbe suffered minor injuries and complained of pain to his head, back and knees. Smith suffered a few minor cuts to his face and arms, and his passenger, Michael Martinez, 40, of Redding, suffered a dislocated hip.
Smith was evaluated for driving under the influence, and CHP investigators say he had been drinking earlier in the night, but he was not over the legal limit.
