Redding police are asking for the public’s help identifying a man who robbed and assaulted an 82-year-old who was trying to purchase lunch at a local fast food restaurant.

Police say an 82-year-old Lewiston man was at Carl’s Jr. on Churn Creek Road around 10:45 a.m. Sunday when a man charged him from the doorway of the restaurant and forcibly removed the bills from his hands while he was attempting to pay the cashier.

The suspect, who was described by witnesses as a white man, 18 to 20 years-old, five feet seven inches tall and 160 pounds, he was wearing a grey hoodie and jeans. He fled on foot towards Dana Drive.

A reward of $1,000 is being offered for any information leading to the robber, and police say the man will face an elder abuse charge when he is arrested.

Tipsters can call Mike Dimatteo with the Redding Police Department at (530) 225-4214 or remain anonymous by contacting Secret Witness of Shasta County.
