Redding police were able to rescue an elderly man Wednesday after he became disoriented and wandered over a mile from his home.
According to police, 80-year-old Thomas Carlson, who suffers from dementia was reported missing by his daughter, Elisa Cetera, at 10:25 a.m. Wednesday. Officers searched by Carlson's Sherman Way home and the immediate area, but were unable to locate him so they called in search and rescue teams.
About two and a half hours later Redding Police Officer Brian Moore was riding an all-terrain motorcycle when he spotted an injured and soaked Carlson stuck in a ravine. Moore along with other officers and firefighters carried Carlson out of the woods and waited for an ambulance with him.
Carlson was transported to Mercy Hospital for further treatment. He is expected to make a full recovery.
