Redding Police: Missing Alzheimer's patient found safe

The California Highway Patrol Humboldt division says a 79-year-old man with Alzheimer's who was reported missing after he drove away from his home Wednesday morning has been found safe.

John Charles Fitzpatrick left his home Redding home around 10 a.m. Fitzpatrick usually stays close to home, but he was seen in Weaverville around 10:45 a.m. asking for directions to Eureka, despite the fact that he does not have any family or friends there.

A Silver Alert was issued by the California Highway Patrol, but has since been cancelled.
