Redding Police say the driver in a fatal collision involving a pedestrian Saturday will not be charged. According to investigators, around 10:48pm, Alec Gregory Schneider, 18, of Redding, was southbound on Highway 273 approaching S. Bonnyview when he entered the turn lanes to turn eastbound onto S. Bonnyview and struck the pedestrian who was crossing Highway 273. They say Schneider pulled over, and told officers he didn't have time to avoid colliding with the pedestrian, who was walking north of the lighted crosswalk. The pedestrian, an unidentified female, was pronounced dead at the scene. Investigators say they found two alcoholic beverages, a hypodermic needle, and a glass smoking device near her body. They do not believe driver impairment had anything to do with the accident. Redding Police are investigating.
