A hatchet-wielding man wanted in connection with a string of overnight residential burglaries in the Redding area has been arrested.
Redding police say 23-year-old Dillon Patrick Warden carried a hatchet with him when he broke into at least five Redding homes over the past three weeks.
Warden, of Napa, was arrested last Saturday when the Shasta County Marshal’s office searched his girlfriend’s home and found him to be in violation of his parole.
Once Warden was in custody, several street informants told authorities the man was a serial burglar. A subsequent search of his home revealed the hatchet allegedly carried during the break-ins, and the clothes he was wearing in at least one of the burglaries.
Redding Burglary Investigator Brian Torum says a handful of the homes hit were occupied, and while none of the homeowners confronted Warden, the fact that he was carrying a hatchet was “alarming” and raised concerns about his intentions if confronted.
Warden has been booked into the Shasta County Jail on suspicion of five residential burglaries.
