Five police dogs with the Redding Police Department will now be a little bit safer when hitting the streets thanks to the donation of ballistic vests.
In early 2014 two Shasta County organizations came together to put on a fundraiser that led the donation of four vests that will help protect police dogs from bullet and stab wounds.
The Cronic Disaster Response group, along with a small group of men who refer to themselves as "Retired Old Men Eating Out" held a golf tournament at Gold Hills Golf Club in Redding. The proceeds raised were donated to the non-profit organization Communities for Police Canines.
The money raised, along with a generous anonymous donation, have now outfitted all five Redding police dogs with new ballistic vests.
The dogs have already begun training in their new vests and police K-9 Tarro has already taken his new look to the street.
