The Redding Police Department released crime statistics comparing criminal activity in the first six months this year to criminal activity in the first six months of 2013.
Highlighting the report is a significant decrease in vehicle theft, but a rise in burglaries. There were 280 vehicle thefts in the first six months last year compared to 230 this year, a nearly 18 percent decrease.
Violent crimes are up 5 percent and the number of rapes reported jumped from 22 to 28, while the numbers for homicides, robberies and larceny remain relatively close to last year's numbers.
