Redding Police arrested two suspects in connection with a shooting that happened near C Street and Layton Road in Redding yesterday around 5:30 p.m.
No gunshot victims were found at the scene, but police detained three people who were at the scene when the shooting occurred and ultimately arrested two of them for their alleged involvement.
During the investigation officers learned a confrontation over an alleged marijuana theft had broken out.
Police say during the confrontation 28-year-old Peter DeJesus, of Anderson, began firing a handgun at 28-year-old Christopher Allan Tomas, of Redding, who in turn produced a gun and pointed it at DeJesus, but did not fire any shots.
After initially fleeing the area, DeJesus disposed of the firearm he used and returned to the scene.
Tomas fled the scene on foot, and hid inside a residence on Layton road. He was apprehended with the help of a Redding Police Department K9.
DeJesus was booked into the Shasta County Jail on charges of felony assault with a firearm, possession of a firearm by a prohibited person, possession of ammunition by a prohibited person, and malicious discharge of a firearm. His bail is $500,000.
Tomas was booked into the Shasta County Jail on charges of possession of a firearm by a prohibited person, possession of ammunition by a prohibited person, and resisting arrest. His bail is $10,000.
