Redding police say staff members at Shasta High School witnessed head football coach Aaron Gingery kick a football player in the groin and then reported it to the school's administration.

According to the police department the alleged incident happened during practice on October 6, and administrators approached a Redding Police Department School Resource Officer.

After the initial report, Redding Police conducted interviews with students, coaches and staff members as well as Gingery. The case was submitted to the Shasta County District Attorney's Office Tuesday.

The District Attorney's Office told Action News Now the case is under review and a determination will be made about whether or not Gingery should be charged for the alleged abuse.

Gingery has been placed on paid administrative leave by Shasta High School.
