Redding PD on High Alert for Possible Predator on Sacramento River Trail

The Redding Police Department is issuing a warning of a possible sexual predator after two women were assaulted while walking on the Sacramento River Trail yesterday afternoon.

Around 4:45 p.m. Monday a woman was walking on the trail about one mile west of Court Street on the south side when she was struck in the head with an object and lost consciousness. When the woman came to she saw a male subject grabbing her ankles and trying to pull her into the brush. The woman began yelling and was able to get away. She suffered a laceration to her right eyelid.

The woman described the suspect as a white male around 14 to 15 years of age, 5’6”, roughly 140-150 pounds with short brown hair and green eyes. According to the department’s release, the suspect was wearing blue jeans, a plaid shirt with a grey sweatshirt and white tennis shoes. The suspect may also have had a silver BMX bicycle.

Earlier on Monday at 12:45 p.m., another woman reported being assaulted along the trail. This woman was jogging at approximately the same location when a male subject grabbed her buttocks, made derogatory statements, then rode off on a silver BMX bicycle. She described the suspect as a white male around 17 years of age, 5’5”, 140 pounds with brown hair. The woman also told police the suspect wore blue jeans and was carrying a black backpack.

Both names of the victims are being withheld for their protection.
