The Redding Police Department arrested 30-year-old Michael Anthony Silva yesterday on charges of burglary, indecent exposure, and failing to comply with sex registration requirements. He is currently being held in lieu of bail in the amount of $100,000.

On December 14, 2013, a male subject matching Silva’s description entered Tropical Tan at 2167 Hilltop Drive and purchased a tanning session minutes after making a phone call to the business. According to the department’s press release, the man called out to a female employee after several minutes and asked for her to enter the room. When the employee was just outside the door the man reportedly opened the door and was standing in the room nude while touching his erect penis. The female employee told the man to leave and he did so without further incident.

Yesterday, a Redding Police Officer determined the identity of the male suspect as Silva after several other local tanning salons reported suspicious contacts with a man matching Silva’s description. An employee from one of the businesses obtained the license plate number of the vehicle the suspect was driving in. Officers eventually discovered the vehicle was owned by a rental agency and was rented to Silva. The female employee at Tropical Tan confirmed Silva was the suspect who exposed himself after officers showed the woman a picture of Silva.

Officers eventually located Silva at his residence on Pegasus Street in Redding and took him into custody. Silva, originally from San Mateo, is a registered sex offender with prior arrests and convictions for indecent exposure.

The Redding Police Department is still investigating the case and anyone with information about similar incidents is asked to contact the department’s Investigations Division at (530 225-4214.
