Redding native Megan Rapinoe helped the United States claim its third Women's World Cup title Sunday, and now her hometown is set to show her some much deserved recognition.
Redding Mayor Francie Sullivan announced Tuesday that July 21 will be declared Megan Rapinoe Day.
Rapinoe, who was born in raised in Redding and attended Foothill High School, capped off an already sensational career with a World Cup Championship Sunday. She has previously won a college national championship and an Olympic Gold Medal.
"Megan is a tremendous example of a young person whose hard work and dedication to excellence has made her a champion," Mayor Sullivan said in a news release Tuesday.
Rapinoe will be honored with the Mayor's Proclomation at the July 21st City Council meeting. Her mother Denise, is expected to accept the honor on Megan's behalf.
