A Redding man accused of attacking and killing 25-year-old Cody Radfrod outside of Halloween party on October 25 will stand trial on murder charges.

28-year-old Jason Lee Duff appeared in court Thursday for a preliminary hearing and a Shasta County Judge determined there is enough evidence to proceed with a murder trial.

Investigators say Duff hosted a Halloween party at his home on Friday October 24 and knocked a very intoxicated Radford unconscious as he was leaving the party.

Emergency responders arrived at the scene around 12:15 a.m. on the 25th and found Radford lying in the road bleeding from his head. He was transported to Mercy Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.

Duff will be in court again on March 30 for a settlement conference, May 1 for a trial readiness hearing and the May 5 for trial.

The District Attorney's Office has charged Duff with an open count of murder, meaning the DA's office could determine the degree before trial, or the case will proceed as an open murder charge and the jury would determine which degree of murder if Duff is convicted.
