Redding man stabbed while trying to break up bar fight

A Redding man is behind bars this morning after stabbing another man during a bar fight.

Police responded to Bombay's on California Street just before 1:30 a.m. Thursday and found 29-year-old Todd Brown suffering four stab wounds to his torso.

Police say Brown told officers that he was trying to break up a fight when one of the men stabbed him.

The victim was taken to the hospital, where he underwent surgery for his wounds.

Authorities found the suspect, 20-year-old Martin Chavez at the AM-PM store on Buenaventura a short time later.

He was arrested and booked into the Shasta County Jail.
