One of the men who was injured in an early morning fight in Redding Sunday has passed away in the hospital.

Redding Police say 48-year-old Claude Alexander Schimes, of Redding, passed away at Mercy Medical Center after spending the last two days in critical condition.

Redding Police initially responded to reports of a car accident, but found two men laying in the street near the intersection of Elmwood and Veda Streets with significant injuries, appearing to be the result of a violent street fight.

An investigation revealed the two injured men had been in a four-minute fight with two other men, but officers are still working to gather information. Anyone with information should contact the Redding Police Department at (53) 225-4200.

The other man found injured in the street was John Raymond Fritz, 29, of Redding. Fritz is in stable condition, and was able to speak with investigators today.
