Redding man changes plea in Halloween party murder

A Redding man accused of attacking and killing another man outside a Halloween party last year has pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter.

28-year-old Jason Lee Duff entered the plea Monday, in exchange for the plea, the court dismissed a murder charge.

Investigators say Duff hosted a Halloween party at his home on Friday October 24 and knocked a very intoxicated Cody Radford unconscious as he was leaving the party.

According to Redding Police investigators, Radford, 25, had become so intoxicated, Duff's girlfriend ordered him leave, when the conversation moved outside the home, Duff punched Radford in the head three times.

Emergency responders found Radford unconscious in the street when they arrived. He was pronounced dead at Mercy Medical Center the next day. The cause of his death was determined to be swelling in the brain, resulting from blunt force trauma.

Duff will be sentenced on September 9, and faces up to 11 years in state prison.
