A Redding man is in custody after he tried to strangle his father and made additional threats to kill him, the Shasta County Sheriff’s office reported Monday.

Deputies with the Shasta County Sheriff’s Office responded to the 12000 block of Lake Boulevard after the reported assault.

Deputies found 72-year-old Teddy Leon Hoyt who said he was attacked by his adult son, 42-year-old Eddy Hoyt.

Teddy Leon told deputies that during the attack Eddy Hoyt pushed him to the floor and began to strangle him with his bare hands, until he reached a point where he was unable to breathe.

Both Teddy Leon and Teddy William, who was present during the attack, told deputies that Eddy Hoyt had stated that he was going to kill Teddy Leon during the incident.

Eddy Hoyt claimed Teddy Leon attacked him, and he was acting in self-defense. Eddy Hoyt denied allegations he strangled his father, Teddy Leon.

Eddy Hoyt was transported to the Shasta County Jail where he was booked on a single count of attempted murder and bond set at half million dollars.
