The Redding City Council agreed this week to get rid of the city's $275 fine for any violation of water rules, and adopted a graduated penalty system.
The new penalty system will take effect after four warnings. After the fourth warning, wasting water in Redding will result in a $50 fine. After the fourth violation, fines will increase to $75 and $100 for second and third violations.
Earlier this month, Redding adopted stage 2 water conservation measures that require residents to follow all state conservation rules and stricter city rules that call for landscape watering on certain days based on property addresses.
