Redding job applications go digital

When you apply for a job with the city of Redding, you will no longer have to bring out stamps and envelopes.

"We're one of many organizations throughout the country that has gone to NEOGOV, which is an online cloud-based application system. In fact, it's the largest one in the country," said Shawn Avery, a personnel analyst for the city.

Redding will be shelling out about $10,700 for an annual subscription fee to NEOGOV, an investment that Avery says will be well worth it.

"Ultimately that's our goal to just have efficiency within the system, and to allow our hiring managers to have the best possible candidates. So we would like the hiring process to move more quickly, and we'll save money along the way as well, in that we'll have less mailings going out, less paper, less office supplies that we utilize," Avery said.

Job seekers will benefit from the NEOGOV system, as well.

Instead of mailing in separate applications for each job opening, applicants will be able to submit to multiple positions at once.

The personnel department expects that the new system will be up and running by the end of the week.
