The Shasta County Sheriff's Office arrested a man they believe was the driver in a Wednesday evening hit-and-run that left a Redding man seriously injured.
18-year-old Damian Ellis-Cort was arrested Thursday evening after Sheriff's Officials tracked his truck to a residence near Shasta View Drive in Redding. Ellis-Cort was interviewed and taken into custody. He has been charged with assault with a deadly weapon, and assault with serious bodily injury.
The victim, 38-year-old Michael Roberts, reported that he was attempting to stop a group of young people who were dangerously off-roading. Roberts told the Sheriff's Office when he attempted to stop the kids they rammed him with their truck and took off.
The truck rolled over Robert's right leg, badly breaking his femur, he also suffered multiple lacerations and head injuries and underwent surgery Thursday.
During the interview Cort-Ellis told investigators Roberts was verbally aggressive and tried to pull him from the vehicle. Cort-Ellis claimed he was trying to flee from Roberts when the injuries occurred.
