The Redding Fire Department is investigating what is believed to be an arson fire at Waterworks Park. Firefighters were called out around 1 a.m. this morning to the Redding water park, located off Lake Boulevard. When they arrived on scene, they found a water slide on fire. The slide, called "The Dragon", was the newest addition to the park, built just a few years ago. The cause of the fire is not yet known, but early indications are that it may have been intentionally set.

“There are signs that there was a break-in through some of the exterior fencing, but there were no witnesses. We're checking camera footage in and around the park, and that will be part of the investigation,” says Redding Fire Battalion Chief Rob Pitt.

Fire officials also noted that the electricity to the park was off. The blaze destroyed most of the slide, but firefighters stopped the spread to any other structures. The general manager for Waterworks Park estimated the damage to be around $500,000.
