Redding native John Rickard is a pretty happy man these days. John's son, Joey Rickard has made his Major League Baseball debut this season for the Baltimore Orioles. Through eleven games, Joey is hitting .304 with four doubles, a homerun, and 4 rbi's.

"It's every dad's dream, just come true," John Rickard said.

However, John is not surprised to see his son doing so well in the big leagues. He saw a certain potential in Joey at a very early age, that made him believe he was destined for great things.

"The first time he's on skates, he has a stride like a National Hockey player. You put him on a football field and he's faster than everybody. God gave him everything," Rickard said.

It didn't take long for that talent to manifest itself into a promising baseball career. As fate would have it though, when Joey finally made the roster for this year's big league club, it was his dad who found out first.

"Dan Duquette, the General Manager, did an interview during one of the games and said that Joey's gonna be on the roster. I texted Joey congratulations and he says, 'What are you talking about dad?' They hadn't even told him," Rickard said.

Needless to say, with all he's accomplished, John couldn't be more proud of his son.

"I don't know how to even explain it," Rickard said. "I'm in heaven."
