The Redding City Council agreed at last night's city council meeting to look further into creating a volunteer police auxiliary program.
The program was suggested by Councilman Patrick Jones as a way to help curb the city's rising crime rate.
Redding police Chief Robert Paoletti told council members that volunteers would help free up officers from non-emergency work.
Chief Paoletti and Councilman Jones will meet to come up with a plan.
Jones will return to the council with recommendations at a later date.
