The Redding City Council has agreed to send a sales tax measure to the Nov. 8 ballot.
Though specific language of the ballot measure still needs to be hashed out, the council unanimously agreed that the sales tax increase should be no more than a half-cent and should sunset in 10 years, if approved by voters.
Faced with an $11 million price tag for a public safety improvement plan, city leaders agreed that such a measure would be the best way to begin implementing the plan, which includes hiring more offices and expanding jail space.
