A Redding business is facing fines after the state's department of Alcohol Beverage Control conducted a sting operation designed to catch store clerks and businesses that provide minors with alcohol.

A minor under the direct supervision of law enforcement was able to purchase alcohol at Stumpy's on Victor Avenue.

The clerk at Stumpy's, Tarsem Singh, 56, of Redding, was cited for selling alcohol to the underage decoy and now faces a minimum fine of $250 and 24 to 32 hours. Additionally, the ABC says they plan to take administrative action against Stumpy's alcohol license.

ABC is conducting the compliance checks statewide to reduce the availability of alcohol to minors. Statistics have shown that young people under the age of 21 have a higher rate of drunken driving fatalities than the general adult population.
