Today in Caldwell Park the North Market Street Bridge was dedicated to fallen Redding Police Officer Owen “Ted” Lyon.

Lyon was killed on May 18, 1967, when he and his partner responded to a domestic violence call at 1047 Gilbert Street. When he arrived at the scene a man shot him in the abdomen and he died 24 hours later at the age of 35.

In September of 2012 the Redding City Council voted to designate the Sacramento River Bridge as the “Redding Police Officer Owen 'Ted' Lyon Memorial Bridge."

Family members, Redding Police Officers, Shasta County Sheriff’s Deputies, and Redding City Council members were on hand for today’s ceremony.

Redding Police Chief Robert Paoletti spoke and closing remarks were made by Mayor Rick Bosetti.
