A bicyclist is sent to the hospital with major injuries after crashing on Highway 273 in Redding. It happened just before 9 p.m. last night on southbound Highway 273 near Cedars Road. Police say Daniel Hagan, 44, of Redding was riding his bike on the west side of the highway when he collided with a metal fence post. Hagan reportedly didn't have a light on his bicycle and was not wearing a helmet. When authorities arrived on scene they say Hagan was unconscious. A Shasta County Sheriff's deputy started rendering first aid on Hagan until paramedics arrived. Hagan was taken to Mercy Medical Center where he is currently in the intensive care unit. Police say they believe alcohol may have been a factor in the crash. They're asking anyone who saw the accident to call the Redding Police Department.
