Red Bluff Soldier Killed in Action in Afghanistan

The Department of Defense has confirmed Spc. Nicholas B. Burley, 22, of Red Bluff was killed in action after injuries suffered in an attack in Puli-I-Alam in the Lagor Province near the Afghan-Pakistani border yesterday. The DOD stated the injures were suffered when enemy forces attacked Burley's unit with indirect fire.

Burley was assigned to the 6th Squadron, 8th Calvary Regiment, 4th Infantry Brigade Combat Team, 3rd Infantry Division of the US Army. The stations unit is located in Fort Stewart, Ga., Burley graduated from basic infantry training in Fort Benning, Ga., in 2011.

Burley is the son of Tammy Olmstead of Red Bluff and Mike Burley of Foresthill.

He is a 2009 graduate of Red Bluff Union High School.
