A Red Bluff man was arrested Sunday morning after his family reported that he had been choking the family dog, and placing it inside an unlit barbecue grill.

Tehama County Sheriff's deputies responded to the report at a home on the 11000 block of Gaylord Avenue in Corning. They found the suspect, 39-year-old Jonathan Ramirez, who admitted to having methamphetamine in his pocket.

He was arrested and booked into the Tehama County Jail for suspected animal cruelty and possession of controlled substance.

The dog was examined and did not need any medical attention.
