Red Bluff fire captain dies while hiking

Red Bluff fire officials have confirmed that Captain Larry Snell, a 30-year veteran of the Red Bluff Fire Department, died while hiking in Whiskeytown Tuesday.

According to the Shasta County Coroner's Office, Snell, 52, collapsed around 5 p.m. while hiking the Mill Creek Trail in Whiskeytown with friends.

Captain John Campbell said the department is shocked and saddened. The following statement was posted to the Red Bluff Volunteer Fire Department Facebook page:

It is with a very heavy heart that we say goodbye to Captain Larry Snell. Larry passed away doing what he loved most, hiking and taking in nature. Rest in peace Larry, you will be greatly missed by many.
