After months of negotiations the, the Red Bluff City Council approved a new contract with the city’s police department Tuesday night.

The Red Bluff Peace Officers Association had been working without a contract since June. The new deal means a sixth step will be added to the ‘Merit Step Progression,’ giving qualified officers a five percent raise.

Officers and dispatchers will also be given a higher allowance for their uniforms, while officers who achieve a Master’s Degree could be eligible for up to a 7.5 percent pay increase.

Peace Officers Association President Aaron Murray say the new deal will help the department retain officers and boost morale.

The council approved the one year contract at Tuesday night’s meeting, and the agreement is expected to cost the city a total of $68,000 in the next year
