California Highway Patrol employees at the red bluff office sheltered in place this afternoon after a maintenance worker found a suspicious device near the building.

The CHP commander alerted the Shasta County Bomb Squad and the team arrived about 3 p.m.

The device was stabilized and moved away from the building and detonated on a nearby embankment..

North Main Street at Adobe Road to the Home Depot was closed for about three hours while the device was removed.

According to Public Information Officer Troy Somavia, it appeared to be a legitimate device or an elaborate fake device.

The CHP Office was reopened about 4 p.m.
