Recall papers filed for Oroville City Councilmember

The ‘Save the Oroville Trees' organization has filed paperwork with the Oroville City Clerk to recall City Councilmember David Pittman.

The Oroville City Clerk's Office is in the process of verifying signatures. A recall requires the signatures of 25 percent of all registered voters in the city.

The recall attempt follows a long battle by the ‘Save the Oroville Trees' group and Pacific Gas and Electric over the removal of 13 sycamore trees outside the Oroville Cemetery.

PG&E officials removed the trees saying it was necessary because of their close proximity to an underground pipeline. The company wants to avoid a repeat of the 2010 San Bruno gas pipeline explosion that left 8 people dead. Officials say they considered moving the pipeline in Oroville, but determined the removal of the trees is the safest option.

‘Save the Oroville Trees' says they have not targeted any other councilmembers because they showed sympathy for the cause.
