Rare meeting held in North Korea

SEOUL, South Korea (AP) - A senior military officer in North Korea has held a rare "emergency situation briefing" for diplomats and military attaches in Pyongyang.

The North has given South Korea until 5 p.m. North Korean time Saturday to stop anti-Pyongyang propaganda broadcasts across the demilitarized zone or face military retaliation.

Both countries exchanged artillery fire yesterday and South Korea's leader is ordering the military to respond immediately if North Korea launches fresh provocation.
